Scent Classes and Scentwork

Scentwork is amazing for building confidence in nervous and fearful dogs, and for calming over-excited dogs. It is a great low-impact activity that can be adapted to dogs with very limited mobility. Most of all, it is fun.

What scent workshops cover

We develop the search with a passive indication. Depending on the dog, this may involve:

  • Developing the freeze indication.
  • Working with smaller scent samples.
  • Adding new scents.
  • Working with distractions.
  • Working in different locations.
  • Working on larger search areas.
  • Searching people and vehicles.
  • Searching rooms and outdoor spaces.
  • Inaccessible hides, and learning about air flows and how to use them to our advantage.

Teams tend to start at different levels and progress at different rates, so the scent workshops are tailored to each team, breaking things down and adding extra challenge for those that want it. Junior handlers are welcome. Sessions are led by a Scentwork UK and World Scent Dog Association certified instructor.

Any questions, please ask. We are very happy to talk through whether a workshop would be suitable for you and your dog, and we enjoy adapting exercises to dogs with unusual needs.

There are tea and coffee facilities at the venue. We work both indoors and outdoors, unless the weather is horrible, when we might stay indoors.
