Host a Workshop

Vay can come to your venue to teach a workshop on Freestyle and Heelwork to Music. We can include a mixture of theory, group and 1-2-1 work in whatever balance suits you.

Topics for workshops include

  • Introduction to Freestyle and Heelwork to Music.
  • Ring skills. Teaching you and your dog how to manage the many variables in a competition environment.
  • Motivation and engagement. Creating a dog that loves to work with you, regardless of distractions.
  • Cues and clarity. Improving our communication with our dogs.
  • Chains and sequences. Using sequences and chains to support our dogs’ confidence while maintaining clean behaviours.
  • Errorless learning. Building confidence and consistency with clean training.
  • Reliability. Moving from training until we get it right, to training so we can’t get it wrong.
  • Distance work. Building precise, reliable behaviours at a distance from you.
  • Reward markers. Improving clarity and influencing your dog’s position, behaviour, arousal state and expectation.
  • Fading support. When your dog does things beautifully with food in your hand, or with a target or other prop, but the behaviour falls apart without. We work on strategies to fade these supports without losing quality or enthusiasm.
  • Handler choice. Working on whatever skills and behaviours each team chooses.
